In an effort to support the California Medical Board’s review of the existing guidelines on prescribing controlled substances, the California Medical Association has released a new summary of guidelines for prescribing opioids called the “Prescribing Opioids: Care amid Controversy.” The purpose of the summary is to provide guidance to doctors in California regarding appropriate prescribing of opioids and controlled substances. Much attention over the past year has focused on the dangers of prescription drug abuse and the prescribing practices of doctors in California. Produced by physician experts, the summary seeks to aid physicians in prescribing controlled substances. California Medical Association members can obtain Prescribing Opioids from the California Medical Association website.
