Anne Schneider’s article, “The financialization of health: Ethical concerns in private equity and healthcare acquisitions,” was published by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal. In the article, Anne describes the conflicts and ethical concerns at play as private equity increasingly expands into medicine, and uses the Corporate Practice of Medicine Doctrine as a model for success in combatting these issues.
“I propose that new laws and ethical guidelines be implemented to protect physician autonomy and patient care during PE takeovers, in the interest of ensuring that patient-centered care remains the primary goal,” Anne writes. “Specifically, the development of laws similar in nature to the CPOM laws is a good first step in addressing ethical and legal concerns regarding the intersection of PE and healthcare.”
